Happy Birthday LM Montgomery!

Lucy Maud Montgomery was born on this day in 1874. She was a Canadian author best known for a series of novels beginning with Anne of Green Gables (one of our BoB titles). The inspiration for the book came from a newspaper article about a couple who were mistakenly sent an orphan girl instead of a boy, but decided to keep her. Find out more at the LM Montgomery Resource page.

Literary classics become txt msgs

Here's an interesting story from BBC news: Literary classics become txt msgs: "Some of English literature's greatest masterpieces have been condensed into a few lines of text message to help students revise for exams." Pride and Prejudice and Romeo and Juliet are used as examples, and you can read the stories in a few lines.
Does this sound like a good idea? Would a service like this help you to understand these masterpieces better? Let us know by posting a comment.

Battle of the Books review

Here is the first BoB book review from one of our team members, Alice of Year 7:
Eragon by Christopher Paolini
This story is about a poor farm boy down on his luck and when he hunted in the Spine, a place so deadly and fatal no one dares speak of it, he found a big, oval sapphire, or so he thought, that could at the very least provide his family meat for a week. But on that very night, the egg, he mistakes it for a sapphire, started hatching...and out came a...dragon.
